I am a peak oil doomer and am coming up with lots of ideas about how to make life easier after the crash. Of these many ideas only a few will be any good. When something does suceed I want to know what I did to make it suceed so that I can duplicate it in the future.
Conversely when something fails I may give up on it for a while only to hear about someone who has got a similar idea working. So what did he do that I didn't do? This is why a database is needed.
As stated earlier the idea behind Corvine Projects is to focus on results. Corvine Projects can be hosted on any computer capable of running XAMPP as Corvine Projects has been tested on this. Specifically PHP and MySQL.
I don't wish to dwell too much on the software. The point is if you need to put more people on to a projects you don't have to worry about licensing fees, ie you remain nimble when it hits the fan.
Corvine Projects is all about getting answers, answers which lead on to results. This isn't a project which is big on eye candy.
Almost any modern browser can be used which has javascript turned on. This includes Firefox 1.0, Mozilla 1.01, Opera 9.27, Internet Explorer 6 and Konqueror 3.03. Older versions may well work fine.
So you really don't have to worry about what kind of gear the guy on the other end of the line has got. As far as his computer is concerned Corvine Projects is just another website.
Corvine Projects has the facility to reference photographs and provide a link for each entry made. For non sensitive pictures Photobucket and Flickr make good free image servers. This also saves on your server bandwidth. Most people can upload to either photobucket or flickr so there is no need for you to consider ftp access for your organisation.
With good search facilities Corvine Projects can produce reports for everyone in HTML that has been handcrafted for optimum leaness and speed of delivery. Most good word processors will import a report.
Keep in mind that although I am focusing on corporate users (since they have heaps of money to pay for my services ;-) ) home users and especially geographicaly diverse Not for Profits can benefit enormously.
There is an obvious advantage of seeing what everyone else has done and had time to digest this and formulate questions before the meeting takes place.
All these entries can be queried. Each person is assigned a
reporting level, so the lower the reporting level the closer they are
to the executive level.
What this means is that the Board of Directors can see what is going on
at level 1 and if they want more detail then they query at level 3 or
level 4 etc.
You can also query be date range, specific projects, specific employees
and for keywords in the text.
The user manual for Corvine Projects is here
